Exciting News: OIC Approval Received for Our Mutual Holding Company Conversion
November 13, 2025
We are pleased to announce that Grange Insurance Association (GIA) has received formal approval from the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) to convert from a mutual insurance company to a mutual holding company structure.
This milestone marks a significant step forward in our commitment to serving our policyholders, independent agency partners, and communities for years to come. The mutual holding company structure will provide GIA with greater flexibility to respond to market changes, invest in technology, and deliver long-term value—while maintaining our mutual heritage and keeping policyholders at the center of everything we do.
Upcoming Steps
- GIA policyholders have been mailed instructions on how to vote on the conversion and will have the opportunity to vote at a virtual meeting to be held at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, December 19.
- For more details, please refer to our Q&A document.
What Follows the Conversion Vote for Policyholders?
- Your policy and coverage will remain unchanged. This conversion does not affect your current policy, benefits, or claims.
- You will continue to have membership rights and voting privileges.
- Our mission remains the same: protecting families, farms, and businesses across our communities.
Thank you for your continued trust and support as we move forward together.
At Grange Insurance Association (GIA), we are committed to evolving in ways that strengthen our ability to serve our policyholders, independent agency partners, and communities for years to come. As part of that commitment, we have filed an application with the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) to convert GIA from a mutual insurance company to a mutual holding company structure.
This change is designed to provide GIA with greater flexibility to respond to market changes, invest in technology, and deliver long-term value to our policyholders. Importantly, the mutual holding company structure allows us to maintain our mutual heritage, ensuring that policyholders remain at the center of everything we do.
What this means for our policyholders
- Your policy and coverage will not change. The conversion will not affect your current policy, benefits, or claims.
- You will remain a member. Policyholders will continue to have membership rights and voting privileges.
- Our mission remains the same. GIA will remain focused on protecting families, farms, and businesses across our communities.
Opportunity to Provide Feedback
The Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) is currently accepting public comments regarding our application until September 19, 2025.
Following the OIC’s formal approval of our application, GIA policyholders will be asked to vote on the conversion. Policyholders will also have the opportunity to share comments during a dedicated policyholder meeting.
