It’s that time of year again: leaves are changing all over the northwest which signals the return of fall, and with it, school bells. As we roll into back-to-school season, we are proud to announce the Grange Insurance Association (GIA) scholarship. We understand that education is an investment; to help make sure that investment doesn’t break the bank for our employees and policyholders, we have set aside scholarship funds for 25 awards. We also award three privately funded scholarships for a total of 28 awards.
No two students are alike, which is why we created two categories for our GIA Scholarship: academic and vocational studies. Three students will be awarded vocational scholarships which are valid at vocational institutions. These institutions are marked by their concentration on building applicable skills without obtaining a degree. Students seeking a degree or certificate will qualify for the academic studies scholarship of which 22 winners will be selected. The three privately funded awards have regional requirements.
The top students in each category will receive a $2,500 scholarship; our remaining recipients will receive $1,000 – $2,000 each.
To qualify for a GIA Scholarship and join the ranks of other proud GIA Scholarship winners, applicants must be any one of the following:
· A current Grange Insurance policyholder (or be the child of one) in one of these six western states: California, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Washington or Wyoming;
· A current GIA company employee (or child of employee);
· A previous GIA Scholarship recipient.
Academic transcripts, an essay, and a complete application will all be evaluated together to determine the scholarship recipients. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2015 to be eligible.
Grange Tip: Make sure you read the instructions on the application carefully. The essay section has multiple questions which you will need to respond to, so take your time and map out your answers before you fill in the details. Read through your finished essay for grammatical and punctuation errors as well. Read through our instructions for more information on the GIA scholarship.
