Scholarship Program For School Year 2010-2011

Grange Insurance Association is pleased to announce GIA will again fund 25 scholarships for the 2010 - 2011 school year, totaling over $26,500. In addition, GIA has also the honor of awarding the Paul & Ethel Holter Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 funded by a gift in Mrs. Holter's Estate, and the Dee & Ina McKern Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 funded by a gift from the McKern family and possibly others for $500 each.

Applicants may apply for a scholarship in either an academic or vocational area of studies. Three of the awards will be for students wishing to pursue vocational studies and 22 will be for academic studies. The top scoring student in each category receives $1,500 and each additional winner receives $1000. Alternates are also named in case a winner is unable to use the award.

Applicant Eligibility:

»Current GIA policyholder (or children or grandchildren of GIA policyholder) in
California, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, or Wyoming

OR

»Grange member (or children or grandchildren of Grange member) in California, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, or Wyoming

OR

»Children or grandchildren of current GIA company employee

OR

»A previous recipient of a GIA scholarship

Please note that children, grandchildren or legal wards of officers or directors of GIA are ineligible.

GIA's scholarships may be used at any institution offering courses leading to a certificate or degree in a recognized profession or vocation, including: community colleges, business colleges and technical institutes, as well as institutions offering an academic degree program. Vocational grants are aimed specifically for those not pursuing a college diploma, but seeking further education and/or training in a vocation often not covered by more traditional educational institutions.

The committee will base its awards on the following:

  • Scholastic ability (copy of grade transcript required)
  • Handwritten or typed Essay by Applicant. 

No new applications will be accepted after April 15, 2010 (postmarked).
